About the International Summer School
The International Summer School
  • is an annual event organized by the study courses Library and Information Management of Stuttgart Media University. From 2012 it will be organized by the Faculty Information and Communication.
  • usually takes place in the last week of September (formerly first week of May)
  • offers a range of 2-3-day-workshops in English language on Library and Information Science, but also interdisciplinary subjects. The workshop topics may vary from year to year. (See Previous Summer School workshops below)
  • is open to students and professionals from the Library and Information Science sector from around the world. Interdisciplinary workshops may be open to participants of other professions as well
  • welcomes 60-80 participants from various countries per year. The countries of origin of Summer School participants so far included Algeria, Armenia, Austria, Australia, Canada, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, the Dominican Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Great Britain, Greece, Iceland, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Lithuania, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Rumania, Sweden, South Africa, Spain, Switzerland, Tunisia, Turkey, and the United States
  • invites guest lecturers from partner universities within Europe and overseas. (See Previous Summer School workshops below)
  • gives participating students the opportunity to earn academic credits (usually 3 ECTS per workshop) – upon successful completion of an assignment. Credits earned are documented in a so called “transcript of records”.
  • facilitates the "Summer School Café" and "Get Together" parties which allow the participants of the different workshops to meet, to share ideas and to reflect what they have learned during the day
  • workshops may be complemented by study trips or excursions, eg visits of libraries or other cultural institutions in the area
