Matriculation
Allocation of study places
After all the data relating to course applicants have been computer-processed, the first allocation procedure
(main procedure) is carried out. Every applicant receives a letter of acceptance or rejection. If accepted
applicants do not accept the study place, additional allocation procedures (move-up procedures) are carried out.
This procedure is repeated until all the available study places have been allocated.
Move-up procedures are normally carried out up to approximately 14 days after the start of lectures.
Participation is automatic, i.e. a separate application for participation in the move-up procedure need not
be made. During the allocation procedure all the main applications for the course of studies in question are
initially taken into account followed by the auxiliary applications made for this course. This is also called
deferred treatment of auxiliary applications. If study places are still available or if study places become
available again after completion of all the allocation procedures (main and move-up procedures) due to a lack of
applicants (i.e. there are no main or auxiliary applications), lots will be drawn in order to allocate study places
among those applicants who have already applied to take part in the lots-drawing procedure or who submit such an
application in accordance with an extended application period.
Matriculation
The course applicant becomes a member of the HdM – University of Applied Sciences (ordinary student)
after matriculation. He/she hereby accepts the study and examination regulations as well as all other study-related regulations.
German applicants may matriculate in writing or in person within the period stipulated in the letter of acceptance.
Foreign students must matriculate in person by submitting a residence permit. The missing documents specified in the
letter of acceptance notice must be submitted for the purpose of matriculation.
Proper matriculation also includes submission of the application for matriculation, documentary evidence of health insurance,
documentary evidence of payment of the Students‘ Union membership fee and documentary evidence of prior study periods and
the related study and examination achievements (passed and failed examinations).
Matriculation becomes effective at the start of the semester. As confirmation of matriculation, the student
receives a study ID card and matriculation certificates for the current semester.
