Audiovisual Media with an Emphasis on Technology and Design, Bachelor

Program Overview:

Anyone wishing to work in the area of media, must have a good command of new technologies and be able to design contents as well as effectively organise production operations. These tasks are carried out in theory and practice within the Audiovisual Media program. Lectures and seminars are supplemented by intensive project work.

The core curriculum includes fundamentals of natural sciences, technology, design and business economics. The main curriculum offers a wide range of individual technical and design electives. The following course subjects are offered: computer animation, film, video, interactive media, internet, event media and audio. The studios comply with international standards.

Students create media products in accordance with professional requirements and under real production conditions. This process starts with an idea, is followed by its conception and realisation, and ends with a public presentation. Students majoring in Audiovisual Media produce for example, live TV broadcasts, films in super 16-mm or digi-cine format or radio plays. They also generate internet websites, edutainment CD-ROMs and computer animated films. All the above-mentioned types of media are used to create events such as theatre performances or trade show exhibitions. The objective is always to use professional media to form a media product which fulfils professional demands.

Students gain practical experience in media companies through the completion of a mandatory co-op working term for one semester. Employment opportunities for graduates include production studios, radio stations, television stations, publishing companies, advertising and multimedia agencies, manufacturing companies as well as institutes for media consultancy, training and communications.

A successful completion of this course of studies leads to the Bachelor of Engineering degree, for which six semester terms are required. Graduates may further enhance and broaden the scope of their studies by subsequently completing the Master’s program.

Admission to the course of studies is restricted (numerus clausus). Prospective students may apply for a begin of undergraduate studies in either the winter or summer semester.
