Information Systems, Bachelor
Program Overview:
There is hardly an area facing such a fascinating process of change as the area of information systems.
New business fields are emerging as a result of mobile services, interactive learning, the analysis
of interlaced existing information and virtual structures which all enable teamwork around the globe.
These are change processes, through which new, challenging professions develop. The effects of new
knowledge media on future businesses and processes must be analysed and complex information systems
must be conceived and planned.
The information systems/information management program leads to a Bachelor of Science degree. An educational
focus is placed on gaining knowledge within the areas of operational application and information systems,
business economics, information and knowledge management and computer sciences. In view of an increasingly
knowledge-based society, the competencies of this major within the areas of media and communications is
coupled with the traditional responsibilities of information management, in order to plan, design and
implement new knowledge media. Students can focus on specific industry oriented topics in supervised
projects and within the range of elective courses.
Educational goals include practical applications in the areas of business economics, computer sciences
and information management, team oriented working methods, as well as the ability for abstraction, for
the use of knowledge in new application fields and for the appropriation of innovative knowledge. Media
competence is just as necessary as the ability to judge issues regarding the ethical handling of
information and knowledge. Placing a proper emphasis on personal interests and desired educational
focal points whilst studying, is decisive for the later profession.
