Program Overview:

The Media Economics course of studies focuses on obtaining a cross section of knowledge regarding all media productions. It links technology, design and contents with all relevant economic aspects. Media is not developed in a vacuum, but rather always in consideration of business economical viewpoints. The economic topics are treated in relation to the respective medium. That distinguishes this program from other economic study programs which do not have a tangible correlation to media. It also distinguishes it from purely design or technical programs. The linking of the areas media and business are the primary educational goal of this course of studies and at the same time a unique characteristic amidst the university community.

Thereby, theory and practice go hand in hand: in the lectures and with media projects, the modern production facilities of the University of Applied Sciences Stuttgart are utilised. Under professional conditions, the theoretical knowledge acquired is applied in true professional conditions. The wide scope of education qualifies students for employment in the area of interfaces between media production and planning as well as in management positions. The Bachelor degree provides for a broad economic armour with a simultaneous understanding for processes within media businesses. This variety is reflected with an appropriate emphasis on courses offered in the main curriculum which follows the core curriculum. In the core curriculum fundamentals of economics, media economics, technical as well as natural sciences and socio-politics are conveyed. The emphasis in the main curriculum is divided into the areas: economics / management / business law, conception / production and communications / society / politics. The integrated co-op working term guarantees for proximity to media enterprises and industry related issues. The studies are completed with a Bachelor dissertation.

Graduates may further enhance and broaden the scope of their studies by subsequently completing the Master’s program.

Admission to the course of studies is restricted (numerus clausus). Prospective students may apply for a begin of undergraduate studies in either the winter or summer semester.
