Packaging Technology, Bachelor

Program Overview:

The Packaging Technology course of studies has been taught at the HdM for more than 30 years. It is an interesting and varied major offering excellent future opportunities. As of the winter semester 2004/2005, the Packaging Technology program is being offered as a Bachelor of Engineering degree comprised of six semesters.

Based on the principles of mathematics and natural sciences, students acquire systematic knowledge in the following areas: packaging materials, production, materials properties, finishing/converting and application areas; construction and design of packaging; packaging and packaging equipment; business economics and packaging marketing; packaging printing. The wide range of required electives enables students to focus on one of the above mentioned subject areas and to combine these with courses from associated majors. The educational concept includes traditional lectures as well as practical training and workshops, in conjunction with the packaging industry.

A multitude of employment opportunities exist beyond just the development of packaging. Graduates currently work in packaging purchasing and sales departments, in development, in the planning and development of large packaging lines, in market research, logistics, etc. New career advancement opportunities are opening up as packaging and logistics become more important to companies.

Graduates may further enhance and broaden the scope of their studies by subsequently completing the Master’s program for Packaging Design and Marketing. Additional graduate degrees with a focus on technical or natural sciences are in planning.

Admission to the course of studies is restricted (numerus clausus). Prospective students may apply for a begin of undergraduate studies in either the winter or summer semester.
