Contents
The lecture starts with an overview on current market figures, which indicate the immense penetration of mobile networks,
devices and applications in everyday life. The evolution from 2G (GSM) to 4G (LTE) is scetched to provide an overview on the
currently relevant standards. After that the most relevant mobile communication systems
- GSM
- GPRS, EDGE
- UMTS, HSPA
constitute the center of this lecture. These systems are described in an evolutionary approach. For each of them the
- Provided Services
- Architecture
- Protocols and Procedures
- Access Technologie
- Radio Interface
are studied in detail. Moreover the lecture provides general insights in radio propagation and radio network planning.
Current topics in emerging mobile services and applications are discussed as well as trends in the standarisation and
development of mobile systems.
