This lecture provides in-depth knowledge on wireless networks. The following standards will be presented in detail:

  • IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n WLAN
  • IEEE 802.16d/e WMAN
  • Bluetooth PAN
In particular for all of these standards the following items are covered:

  • Provided Services
  • Architecture
  • Protocols and Procedures
  • Access Technologie
  • Performance Figures, e.g. throughput and coverage
Moreover, general aspects of wireless communications, such as the characteristics of the mobile propagation channel, modulation and coding, Link Budget and coverage calculations are discussed.
In addition to the lecture (Monday 11.45h-13.15h) exercises are provided to the students. The exercises will be discussed jointly in the frame of a block seminar. The date of the block seminar will be fixed later. It is strongly recommended that students try to prepare the excercises individually before the block seminar.
