Kompetenzprofil
Lernergebnisse:The goal of this praxis oriented seminar is for students to understand game design theory and learn how to design games. The focus of the seminar will be based on experience/interaction design for games-, storytelling-, game structures/interactions- and story-world building- theories and design principles.

Students start the design process by forming interests groups and deconstructing a game of their choice using a reverse engineering approach with the purpose of understanding the various factors that will play into a holistic gaming experience.

After some creativity workshops, the students will start to form game design teams (2-5 Students) and create low fidelity prototypes. The purpose of the teamwork is to enable critical discussions and design reflections. Throughout an iterative design process, the students will critically discuss and reflect upon design methods and design options for the purpose of learning how to apply a player-centered design approach and conduct an empirical study for games.

The main deliverable of this praxis-oriented seminar is to produce a "vertical slice of a game" using state of the art game engines. A vertical slice is a portion of a game that acts as a proof of concept for investors or other stakeholders within the games industry who plan to fund games.

Due to the interdisciplinary nature of the subject, students will be requested to consider technological, design and business concepts and how they may influence holistic design decisions and document them in a game design specification.
