FINANCIAL INFORMATION AND COST


Being an exchange student at HdM, you won't have to pay any tuition fees to our university. You will be required to pay the semester registration fee (from Winter Semester 2024/2025 onwards 96,50 EUR).

Here below you can find some further information on the estimated cost for your semester as of January 2025:


* Accommodation: ca. 350-420 EUR per month (depending on the hall of residence) and a deposit (currently 400 EUR plus the first rent, to be paid before arrival)

* Health insurance (mandatory for students without the EHIC European Health Insurance Card or a bilateral insurance agreement between home country and Germany): Around 140-145 EUR per month

* Student ticket for the public transport in Stuttgart: See information about ticket options below.

* Groceries: The prices vary depending on the shop. Past exchange students have estimated to have spent an average of 200-250 EUR per month.

* Books and other study materials: Not all lecturers require students to purchase books. Prices range from second hand books to new books costing between 10-25 EUR. If you join our German language course, you will be asked to buy 2 books, which are around 20 EUR in total.

* Exchange Student Network (ESN) card: 12 EUR.


When budgeting, please also add some funds for clothing, travels, and social life.

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) is the German national agency for the support of international academic cooperation. They offer programs and funding for students, faculty, researchers and others in higher education, providing financial support to over 67,000 individuals per year to go to and from Germany. DeutschlandTicket JugendBW

With the DeutschlandTicket JugendBW, you can use local public transport throughout Germany around the clock. You receive the ticket as an annual subscription, meaning that you can not cancel it monthly! You will pay the higher of the two prices listed on the below website.

Deutschland Ticket

DeutschlandTicket is a nationwide public transport ticket. You can use all means of local transport throughout Germany apart from the fast trains. The ticket is offered as an annual subscription, but can be canceled monthly.
