Online application for Exchange Students

for Winter Semester:

Application Instructions:

1. Please ensure that your home institution nominates you officially to HdM International Office using the nomination portal they receive a link to in March/September. PLEASE NOTE: We unfortunately can not welcome students with home residence in Germany/German nationals to HdM as exchange students.


2. Please choose one of our English-taught Minor Programs or regular German-taught Study Programs. It is important to always indicate at least a second choice, as some Minors have a limited amount of spaces. An overview can be found here:

  • 3. Please create an account in our application software Mobility Online using the link we provide you with in the official application information email end of April/September.


    4. Please confirm your account and begin with your application. You will need to upload the following supporting documents as part of the application process:


  • A Letter of Motivation/Personal Statement (approx. 1 A4-sized page)
  • An up-to-date Transcript of Records from your home institution (Please note, that we can only accept documents in English or in German)
  • A Certificate of English language (for English-taught Minor Programs), recommended level: B2 OR of German language (if you wish to study regular courses/modules in German), recommended level: B2 for Bachelor level studies or C1 for Master level studies. This does not apply to native speakers. We accept several test results like IELTS and TOEFL, but also country-specific test results and home university support letters.
  • An overview can be found on the HdM Factsheet.
  • An online German language test result (link to the test will be given to all applicants as part of the application process, applies to non-native speakers only). This result helps our Language Centre to allocate students to appropriate German language course groups.
  • A copy of your passport (non-EU/EEA nationals) or national identity card (EU/EEA nationals). PLEASE NOTE: We unfortunately can not welcome students with home residence in Germany/German nationals to HdM as exchange students.
  • Students from the EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland and the UK (if applicable): A copy of your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC)
  • A passport-sized photo (JPG, format 4:3) suitable for your student ID card
