Industrial Print Media Production

(PLEASE NOTE: This Minor Program is currently not open for applications due to the restructuring of the content.)

The Minor Program Industrial Print Media Production will take students through a comprehensive exploration of the world of pre-press, printing, binding, finishing and material science. Major processes, ranging from pre-press to finishing, and major materials such as paper, inks and adhesives will be discussed on two levels:

First, each process will be examined within the context of the printing industry so students can make useful recommendations. Viewed as a part of a greater whole, each process will fit in the bigger picture of the print media industry.

Second, the minutiae of each, such as communication, layouts, and manufacturing performance expectations, will be explained to enable students to manage their future projects within the industry more effectively.

The course will deal with practical work that will encourage students to explore the specifics of processes, workflows and methods.

Students will aim for a comprehensive knowledge on major printing processes such as litho sheet fed, web offset, gravure, and digital printing including the necessary requirements for binding and finishing. The course will deal with workflow solutions and the technology and industry trends.
