"Welcome to the Language Center!"
The Language Center, as a central facility of the university, supports the teaching and learning of languages throughout the university. Our programme gives students the possibility to acquire key skills and recognized qualifications in different foreign languages as well as intercultural training in preparation for a study abroad. In addition we offer language courses directly to specific Faculties and Departments and for university staff. The aim is to provide members of the university community with the necessary linguistic and communication skills for academic and work-related purposes in an international field.
Every semester we offer courses in the following languages from beginners to advanced level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR): English, Spanish, French, Italian, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, Portuguese and Turkish.
The courses are characterized by a university-specific progression and are designed to meet the learning needs and study requirements at the Stuttgart Media University. In addition to General Language Courses, we offer technical and academic language courses as well as English courses, related to ours study-programmes and degree-programmes (including media-supported language lessons). The process of language acquisition is reinforced by the use of e-learning together with the student’s capacity for self-learning.

German as Foreign Language
Our programme “German as a Foreign Language” gives international students (matriculated as well as exchange student) the possibility to improve their proficiency in German while studying at our university. Courses range from beginner to advanced level in accordance to CEFR A1 to C2. We offer intensive courses during the semester break as well as semester-long courses on a weekly basis.

Additional language courses are offered within the Language Association Programme VESPA (Verbund für Sprachenangelegenheiten). Students have the opportunity to attend a more extensive range of courses – amongst other in Chinese, Japanese and Portuguese - which are reciprocally recognized by the four participating universities in the Stuttgart Region: Hochschule der Medien, Hochschule für Technik, Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste und Staatliche Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst.

Upon successful completion of a language course (German or another Foreign Language) students receive a graded performance certificate detailing the level achieved according to CEFR and the number of ECTS credits accrued.
Our courses are open to students and staff of the Stuttgart Media University and of the partner universities of VESPA.
