New English taught international bachelor programme of engineering in media technologies

Hochschule der Medien (HdM), a University of Applied Sciences in Stuttgart, Germany announces a new Bachelor of Engineering degree in Print Media Technologies for international students. The English taught programme consists of media production, media engineering, and corporate management. The Ministry of Sciences, Culture and Art (Baden Wurttemberg) has as well approved the programme and accolades for the University's commitment to providing education that directly aligns with international media business growth. Classes will start in March 2018.

The degree will involve two educational emphases, professional media engineering and management. The education in engineering builds on subjects such as Information Technologies, Pre-Media and Pre Press Technologies, Cross Media Publishing, Variable Data Printing, 3D Printing, Product Development, Technical Product Design, Packaging and Industrial Printing such as décor, printed electronics and lifestyle products. The education in management includes courses in Intercultural Problem Solving, Strategic Corporate Planning, Production and Material Management, International Management and Law as well as classes in Business Administration.

"This English taught programme is much more affordable than many others across Europe. The graduates enjoy excellent careers in the industry, which include technical, management, marketing, and senior positions across the world. Our students will also have the opportunity to acquire inter-cultural, language and leadership skills," said Professor Volker Jansen, academic dean.

Industry and market growth

The new degree will ensure the media industry in Europe and abroad will have a highly skilled and qualified talent pool. According to data acquired by leading European research institutes, the worldwide media industry grows double digit per annum, especially in packaging, variable data and 3D printing. "Our graduates are working as researchers, managers and creative in international businesses, everywhere from major industries and brand owners through to innovative craft creators," says Professor Armin Weichmann, who runs the industrial engineering department in printing at HdM.

Programme improvements

The new bachelor's degree is the latest development in recent years marked by continuous growth of Hochschule der Medien. The faculty runs a technical learning centre for students, the "Production Space". It features a great number of well-equipped laboratories including industrial print presses, IT facilities, creative printing set-ups and post-press equipment. The centre also features pre-media facilities involving the latest soft- and hardware technologies.

How to apply

The course team recognise applicants come from a broad spectrum of backgrounds from across the world. Hence, the programme attracts international (and German) students seeking an English taught programme in media technologies. In common with all courses at the University, the programme in print Media Technologies is credit rated. The programme runs over 3 ½ years. Beside the subject related programme the curriculum offers German language courses for non-German native speakers, while German students attend an alternative language programme in French, Spanish or Italian. Though all subject related lectures are conducted in English.

Individuals who have acquired a university entrance certificate and who are fluent in English may apply. A personal statement is an important element of the application. Applicants from Non-EU countries may apply from first of July 2017 until 31st October 2017 and EU Residents may apply from November 15th 2017 until January 15th 2017 at www.hdm-stuttgart.de/pmt. The tuition fees for Non-EU students are 2,415.60 EUR/Semester. If you have a passport from an EU member state or a residence permit for Germany, you do not need to pay any tuition fees.
