Editorial

Dear reader,

the International Circle of Educational Institutes for Graphic Arts: Technology and Management (IC) is a fifty-year-old association with members from all over the world. Among its members there was a widespread feeling that a scientific journal for their field was missing. The best solution to this shortcoming was to develop one. You now hold in your hands the first number of the International Circular of Graphic Education and Research, short the IC Journal.
As its title indicates, the International Circular of Graphic Education and Research is supposed to cover both main aspects of the work of its members: education and research.
In the science section, we will publish high-level research results; to make this sure, all papers will be peer- reviewed by two top experts of our field. Just to be clear: “Science” in this case also means engineering and economics.
But after all, the education of the future leaders of our business is the top priority of our member institutes; hence the IC Journal is also open to contributions on new approaches and the development of academic education in our field.
Thirdly, the IC as a profoundly international organisation welcomes contributions about significant developments in the graphic arts industry in specific countries which may not be available elsewhere.
It has been my pleasure to coordinate the development of the IC journal and of its first issue; this wouldn’t have been possible, however, without the help of many people: the writers of the papers; those serving in the editorial board; the referees who carefully read every sentence of the papers and made helpful suggestions how to further improve the texts; the students who developed the layout and set the journal; and, last not least, the colleagues from the Moscow State University of Graphic Arts who produced the journal.
Of course, it’s printed. The Journal of the International Circle of Educational Institutes for Graphic Arts has to be printed. On the other hand, we know that presence in the internet is indispensable today. So the contents of the IC Journal will also be available on the IC website, http://www.hdm-stuttgart.de/international_circle, where you also will find the instructions for authors.
But the basic truth of every journal is: It can’t exist without content. So all of you are cordially invited to hand in your contributions. We will treat them with the utmost care. Together we will make the IC Journal a success.
