Beschreibung: In times of 'Fridays for future' it seems the young generation – that's you – has become more political than generation X has ever thought of. Based on TED-talks we will discuss topics like 'Do schools kill creativity?', 'The 4 ways sound affect us', 'Your body language shapes who you are', 'Why videos go viral', 'Build a school in the cloud' or 'Creative problem-solving in the face of extreme limits.' The focus will be on spoken English (verb-noun collocations), but also written English in form of comments and essays will play a part. There will be room for your ideas, interests and demands. Essay writing and presentations skills will be covered as well as the art of controversal discussions. The essays and presentations are based on Steven Pinker's book 'Enlightenment now' and cover topics like 'Progressophobia', 'Sustenance', 'The environment', 'Terrorism', 'Democracy', 'Happiness', 'The future of progress' and 'Humanism'.
Literatur: Course materials will be made available on Moodle and in class.
