The Fundamentals of Engineering module covers basic topics in electricity, mechanical engineering and mechatronics. It is split into a theoretical part and a lab course. Subject of the lecture on Fundamentals of Electrical Engineering is the physics of charges, electric fields, currents, resistors and capacitors. In the lab course students learn to set up electric circuits and to conduct measurements. The lecture on Fundamentals of Mechatronics covers basic topics in mechanical and control engineering.
After completion of the course students have a fundamental understanding of electricity, mechanical engineering and mechatronics. They are able to recognize the relevant physical laws and can apply them by utilizing mathematical methods. They are able to devise and realize measurement set-ups, and to conduct and evaluate measurements. Students will be able to work their way into new subjects in these fields and can demonstrate competency in their understanding of scientific information.
