| Beschreibung: | Die Studierenden lernen in der theoretischen Darstellung der Vorlesung und anhand von ausgewählten Filmausschnitten den gestalterischen Stil und die Eigeneart bedeutender Filmregisseure kennen. Der Schwerpunkt liegt auf der Filmgestaltung. Rhetorik und mediale Wahrnehmungstheorie bilden in diesem Zusammenhang wesentliche Bestandteile des Seminars. Der Blick wird auf die sogenannten 'Creative Industries' gelegt, die visuelles, auditives, und textuelles Material als Grundvoraussetzung für die Produktion von professionellen Medienangaben verknüpft. |

| English Abstract: | COURSE OUTLINE: This course is geared towards encouraging students to develop advanced analytical and critical approaches to the history of cinematic conventions, through the close study of moving image genres, iconography, and narrative art. The course aims to provide a conceptual basis, from which the students may explore the rhetorical and narrative potential of filmic audio-visual expression. Furthermore, approaches to understanding user reception of narrative and artistic form are key elements applicable to various fields within the current range of creative industries. The curriicular content covers filmic conventions from early Film Noir to the latest cinematic narrative strategies. Emphasis will be placed on the relationship between the iconographic patterns within the image strategies and the narrative structure of screenplay dialogue and voice over. In particular the course will look at strategies of visual irony where the image strategy either contradicts the spoken narrative or adds a deeper dimension. Course credits and assessment grades are based upon student presentations, in which the students analyse the image strategies of films chosen from a genre of their own choice. Please note: Detailed syllabi are not a standard in German universities; students should expect to be informed of assignments verbally and/or via an online learning platform. |
