Beschreibung: The course covers the groundwork needed as an introduction to the techniques and artistic choices involved in filmic and televisual documentary reporting, research and production. In the first two of the four-hour sessions the students will be introduced to the various forms of documentaries which have developed since the 1930s. The dramaturgical elements of documentary construction used in filmic or televisual and>/or journalistic art form a key element of the course. Students whose interests are geared towards media m amagement will be expected to place added emphasis on production management. This includes, planning, obtaining film-permits (Drehgenehmigungen), and costing. (Kalkulationen) The second two hours will be assigned to practical work such as research, location visits and the production of treatments, production planning, story boards, and possibly sound and video recordings. The Course Credit takes the form of a PROJECT FILE outlining a proposed documentary project of the student's choice.
English Title: Non-Fiction Moving Image Presentation- Theory and Practice of Documentary Making.
English Abstract: COURSE OUTLINE: Practical and theoretical approaches to artistic, editorial, and dramaturgical aspects of non-fiction (documentary)film making. The course also includes analytical aspects of the television documentary before and after the switch to multi-channel digital TV. The broad range of non-fiction genres, covered includes: Cinema Verité, The Origins of Documentary, Classical Documentary Form, Artistic Documentary, Rhetorical Documentary, Anthropological Approaches, Reportage, Film Essay, Dramatic Reconstruction & docudrama. COURSE CREDITS & ASSESSMENT: The Course Credit takes the form of a PROJECT FILE outlining a proposed documentary project of the student's choice.
