I work on immersive, multimodal, and intelligent user interfaces, with a particular focus on artificial intelligence and virtual and augmented reality (AR/VR).
After studying Media Informatics (Dipl.-Ing. FH), I worked as a developer, designer, as well as an art and technical director in the fields of CGI/VFX animation and computer games. My PhD at the University of Stuttgart was funded by the graduate program “Digital Media” and the DFG Collaborative Research Center SFB-TRR 161 (Quantitative Methods for Visual Computing). Supervised by Niels Henze, my dissertation investigated the Uncanny Valley of virtual characters and avatars. In 2017, I worked as a research intern at Oculus Research (Meta) in Redmond. In 2019, I was a postdoctoral researcher at TechBase and the University of Regensburg. From 2020 to 2025, I held a professorship in Human–Computer Interaction at Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences, focusing on multimodal experiences in mixed reality.
Currently, my goal is to advance innovative research and student projects on novel user interfaces and user experiences. My research is interdisciplinary and combines methods from human–computer interaction, artificial intelligence, computer graphics, and cognitive psychology. In addition to theoretical contributions, we place a strong emphasis on user-centered studies in order to develop practical solutions for relevant societal and technological challenges.
