Studying without "Abitur"
If you have completed a recognized advanced vocational training, such as a "Meister" (master craftsman diploma), or are a graduate of an equivalent professional training program, you are qualified to apply for a bachelor’s degree program. You can also get a university entrance qualification for a subject-specific bachelor's degree program if you have completed at least 2 years of vocational training and have 3 years of work experience. To do so, you must pass an eligibility test and attend a consultation interview at the university.
Studying with a foreign degree
German citizens – international degrees
If you are a German citizen and have obtained your "Abitur" in another country, e.g. at a "Deutsche Schule", please check which is the case:
1) Your place of residence is abroad: Your certificates can be recognized by the Regional Council in Stuttgart.
2) Your place of residence is in another German federal state (Bundesland): Your certificates can be recognized by the certificate recognition authority in your respective federal state.
If you are a German citizen and have obtained other educational qualifications abroad, you can use the anabin database to gain a first impression of whether your qualifications are approximately equivalent to qualifications awarded in the German educational system. In order to be admitted to HdM, you need a recognition of certificates ("Zeugnisanerkennung") from the Studienkolleg Konstanz. Please note that the recognition of certificates must be submitted to us by the end of the application period (July 15th).
Please note: Long processing times are to be expected.
If you are German and have obtained an IB (International Baccalaureat) in Germany or abroad and want to study in Baden-Württemberg, your IB has to be recognized by the Regional Council Stuttgart.
International applicants – international degree
In order to be admitted to HdM, international applicants with an international degree need a recognition of certificates from the Studienkolleg Konstanz. During the recognition process, the relevant authority will check whether you can study with your school-leaving certificate at a University of Applied Sciences in Baden-Württemberg and will convert your grade into the German grading system. You will receive a certificate of recognition, which is required for your application at HdM.
Please note that the certificate of recognition must be submitted to us by the end of the application period (July, 15th).
Please note: Long processing times are to be expected.
Applicants from China, India, Vietnam, Mongolia
Your application must include an original certificate from the Academic Examinations Center ("Akademische Prüfstelle APS"). Please refer to your national representation for further information on requirements, deadlines and the application process.
Visa information
As an international student, you will need a visa and proof of sufficient funds to study in Germany. The visa process can take several months, so we highly recommend applying well in advance. In many cases, you can schedule a visa appointment even before receiving your admission letter. However, you will need the letter when attending the appointment. Make sure to familiarize yourself with the specific documents required for your visa application, the necessary financial proof, and the available funding options for your studies in Germany.
