Wie Bewegung die filmische Erfahrung prägt

Eine Arbeit über die Wahrnehmung und Gestaltung von Bewegung und ihr Beitrag zum Kinoerlebnis

The way in which movement is represented in film distinguishes it from other visual art forms, such as photography or painting. Because of the multiple perceptual-psychological processes that this designed movement in film can address in the recipient, movement is an important link between cinematic action and the viewer's immersive experience. Although many talented filmmakers have been telling stories with moving images for over 120 years, we still know relatively little about why films have such a powerful effect. This paper examines both the perception of motion in reality and the conditions on the technical and psychological side that enable motion perception in cinema. The findings are then placed in the context of a film experience and the perception of movement in cinema as well as its contribution to the cinema experience are examined in more detail. The analysis of four selected films lastly provides information on how designed movement is used in practice and what function it can serve for visual storytelling.
