The Art of Flashback
THE ART OF FLASHBACK
When we tell stories in our everyday lives, we rarely tell them chronologically from the beginning of a chain of events to its end. Instead, we often begin a story with a particular event and only then explain how it came about, or repeatedly intersperse information about the previous story at appropriate points in the narrative. Many modern feature films are also non-chronological narratives that incorporate scenes from the past into the present-day plot. The flashback as a jump back in time is considered a common and important part of storytelling in film nowadays. It not only influences the story told in a film, but also exerts an enormous influence on the viewer's perception.
