Whether YouTube, Facebook, Musicload, Twitter or Amazon – everybody knows and uses the variety of web-based services that the Internet offers. But who is behind them and who earns money with them? What is different about managing online media from the classic media? And what, for example, do social networks mean for customer loyalty? The students of Online Media Management are concerned with these and many other questions concerning the media and the Internet.

Contents and Structure

The degree programme trains internationally oriented specialists for the management of online media who not only have management know-how, but also understand technology and are at home in a media environment. In this way, they are able to identify new trends in good time, to develop potentially successful concepts and to manage their implementation.

In the basic part of the degree programme, the students learn about management, media management, Internet technologies and social competences. In the main part of the degree programme, the focus is on (media) management, media production and carrying out projects independently. The fourth semester is an international semester, which is taught in English. This semester can, like the subsequent practical semester, be undertaken abroad.

The seven-semester degree programme is, in close cooperation with partners from the industry, constantly being adapted to meet the demands of the job market, and current topics are continually being integrated into the syllabus. The use of innovative teaching and learning methods and the small number of students per semester ensure an optimal learning environment and the greatest possible success.

Perspectives

Thanks to their interdisciplinary knowledge, graduates can work in the online fields of many different companies, for example, in industry, and for media or service providers. Possible areas of responsibility as a specialist or in management lie in the online sector in product and project management, in e-business or in IT conception and implementation. Because these fields are still very new, companies have a great need for qualified staff.

Admission

The degree programme starts in the winter and summer semester. Student places are limited. Applicants must include a letter explaining their motivation for entering the degree programme with their application.
