Interaction Design and Development

The increasing amount of digitization, network integration and globalization in our information society is creating more and more interdisciplinary jobs. New experts with both software development and interaction design competence are required to design and realize modern interactive media applications such as Web sites, mobile applications or games. The basic part of the Mobile Media degree programme provide fundamental skills in software development, interaction design and digital innovation. In the main part of their studies, students can use a high degree of freedom to choose between many electives between in-depth software development, experience design and business innovation profiles, suitable for their dream jobs.

Contents and Structure

There are universities offering a focus on software development and there are degree programmes dedicated to User Experience Design. The Mobile Media degree programme provides the perfect mixture of know-how for a job market where companies recognize usability and user experience as increasingly important aspects of their products. Mobile Media graduates know how to design for usability and user experience. They have experience in programming software for mobile devices. They are proficient in designing interactive systems and can develop suitable business models to bring their projects to the market. After acquiring the corresponding knowledge and skills in software development in the basic part of their studies, they select between elective modules in the areas of design, innovation, user experience, games and in-depth app development according to their personal preferences. A compulsory internship semester, which can also be spent abroad, complements students’ knowledge with practical business experience.

Perspectives

After graduating in Mobile Media, there are many good job opportunities in the software, games and creative industries. Being responsible for user centered, digital products, they can conceive, design and implement innovative projects for brands. The Mobile Media study programme offers the opportunity to design novel “digital experiences” which will shape everyday life in future. Apart from long-established sectors such as Web, app and frontend development, game design or experience design, new jobs are also being created in growing sectors such as Smart Home or Automotive Apps.

Graduates of the degree programme in Mobile Media have in-depth interdisciplinary knowledge and experience, allowing them to work as (e.g.)

Admission

There is a limited number of places. The degree programme, which is approximately 80% in German and 20% in English, starts in winter and summer semesters. Applicants can include a letter explaining their motivation for enrolling in the degree programme with their application.
