Workload: 12 weekly sessions a 90' plus self-study.
Requirements for obtaining ECTS credits and language course certificate:
  • Compulsory attendance
  • Preparation and follow up of classes in self-study
  • Active participation in class
  • Mid-term examination or presentation
  • Passing the final examination
  • The final, overall grade consists of partial performances (KMP) that must be achieved over the entire duration of the course
    Please note:
    Regular attendance is mandatory and will be assessed: 85% of the course is to be completed in presence, this also applies to online teaching formats, via videoconference. Make sure that you do not miss more than two classes (4 SWS). This way you will be admitted to the final examination!
    Active participation in class (peer and group works, discussion) incl. verbal skills will be evaluated.
    The course ends with a written examination, which usually takes place on the last day of the course. To successfully pass the examination, you much achieve at least 60 per cent.

    Inhaltliche Verbindung zu anderen Lehrveranstaltungen im Modul: A CEFR level B2 at least is required.

    Beschreibung: Working with the world
    This course is designed to prepare students to communicate effectively with native and non-native English speakers from all over the world. We will raise your awareness for the communicative and cultural implications in professional situations. You will receive vital input on intercultural theory and relevant language structures (e.g. indirect questions).

    In our sessions, you will share your personal cultural backpack, develop solutions for critical incidents at the workplace and discuss the validity of culture standards and cultural stereotypes. Your active participation will account for 20% of the final grade.

    In groups you will prepare a presentation on working with a target culture of your choice (30% of final grade).

    At the end of the semester, you can test your intercultural knowledge and language competence in a final exam (50% of final grade).
