Workload: 12 dates à 2 hours per week (attendance) plus self-study.
Requirements for obtaining ECTS credits and language course certificate:
  • Compulsory attendance
  • Preparation and follow up of classes in self-study
  • Active participation in class
  • Mid-term examination or presentation
  • Passing the final examination
  • The final, overall grade consists of partial performances (KMP) that must be achieved over the entire duration of the course
    Please note:
    Regular attendance is mandatory and will be assessed: 85% of the course is to be completed in presence, this also applies to online - distance teaching formats, via videoconference. Make sure that you do not miss more than two classes (4 SWS). This way you will be admitted to the final examination!
    Active participation in class (peer and group works, discussion) incl. verbal skills will be evaluated.
    The course ends with a written and verbal final examination which usually takes place on the last day of the course. To successfully pass the examination, at least 60 percent must be achieved in total.
    After successful completion of this level, students can attend the next course at CEFR level C1.1.

    Formale Zulassungsvoraussetzungen: A completed CEFR B2.1 level of English is required (OOPT result B2.2 = score of 71 to 80).
    This course is recommended for students who have completed the English Refresher Upper Intermediate Course B2.1 (822426).

    Global: students should be able to understand the main ideas of complex texts on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in their field of specialisation. They can interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible without strain for either party. They can produce clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects and explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options.
  • Listening: students can understand standard speech spoken at a normal rate and follow even complex lines of argument provided the topic is reasonably familiar. They can understand the essentials of lectures and most TV news and current affairs programmes and can understand the majority of films in standard dialect.
  • Reading: students can understand articles and reports concerned with contemporary problems in which the writers adopt particular stances or viewpoints. They can understand contemporary literary prose and can adapt style and speed of reading to different texts and purposes, using appropriate reference-sources selectively.
  • Spoken interaction: students can interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible. They are able to take an active part in discussion in familiar contexts and can account for and sustain views clearly by providing relevant explanations and arguments.
  • Spoken production: They can present clear, detailed descriptions on a wide range of subjects related to their field of interest, expanding and supporting ideas with subsidiary points and relevant examples. They can explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options.
  • Writing: Students are able to write clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects related to their interests. They can write an essay or report, passing on information or giving reasons in support of or against a particular point of view. They can write letters highlighting the personal significance of events and experiences.
