Requirements for obtaining ECTS credits and language course certificate:
Compulsory attendance
Preparation and follow up of classes in self-study
Active participation in class
Mid-term examination or presentation
Passing the final examination
The final, overall grade consists of partial performances (KMP) that must be achieved over the entire duration of the course
Please note:
Regular attendance is mandatory and will be assessed:
85% of the course is to be completed in presence, this also applies to online - distance teaching formats, via videoconference. Make sure that you do not miss more than two classes (4 SWS). This way you will be admitted to the final examination!
Active participation in class (peer and group works, discussion) incl. verbal skills will be evaluated.
The course ends with a written and verbal final examination which usually takes place on the last day of the course. To successfully pass the examination, at least 60 percent must be achieved in total.

The result of the Oxford Placement Test (OOPT) with a score ranging between 81 to 100 (C1) points OR a certificate from a previously completed B2 or C1 course at the HdM Language Centre.

This course is designed to prepare students to communicate effectively in Marketing and PR. We will raise your awareness for the linguistic, communicative and cultural implications in commercial texts. You will receive vital background information on marketing, advertising and PR in the English-speaking world. We will be discussing representative examples for good/ bad marketing, and analyze the stylistic features of effective commercial texts.
In groups, you will create commercial texts to be discussed in class, and develop a realistic marketing/ PR project to be presented at the course (incl. critical questions from the audience).
At the end of the semester, you should be able to interpret and produce commercial texts (webpages, emails, newsletters, brochures, radio/ TV ads, etc.), and make strategic use of relevant linguistic means to sell yourself and your services/ products.Skills trained:
