In our sessions we will be discussing representative examples for good/ bad marketing, and analyze the stylistic features of effective commercial texts. In groups, you will create commercial texts to be discussed in class, and develop a realistic marketing/ PR project to be to be pitched to the course (incl. critical questions from the audience). At the end of the semester, you should be able to interpret and produce commercial texts (webpages, emails, newsletters, brochures, radio/ TV ads, etc.), and make strategic use of relevant linguistic means to sell yourself and your services/ products and will have the opportunity to test your Marketing English knowledge and language competence in a final exam. English Abstract: | This course is designed to prepare students to communicate effectively in Marketing and PR situations (i.e. selling yourself and your products or services). We will raise your awareness for the linguistic, communicative and cultural implications in commercial texts. You will receive vital background information on marketing, advertising and PR in the English-speaking world as well on marketing theory and wording (branding, framing, slogans). |
