Beschreibung: This module looks at the power of stories and at what makes a story a good story. We will address such issues as:
- What is the importance of genre and what is the effect when makers cross boundaries?
- Which plot types exist and which parallels can you draw with the stories you consume?
- Which archetypes exist and how can you better understand the characters in your story?
- What is the role of metaphor and how does it and other style elements contribute to your interpretation of a story?
- How does a story relate to others that came before and which similarities and differences can you find?

Stories form the intellectual capital of any publisher, whether they publish cookery books, glossy magazines, literary fiction or manga. An understanding of the workings of genres and storytelling techniques will allow you to talk with confidence and expertise about stories and their quality (or lack thereof) with professionals in the publishing industry, while at the same time sharing your well-founded opinion. Even if you do not end up in publishing, a grasp of how stories work will be useful, since they are not only widespread across all industries and fields, but also in society at large. At the same time, you might benefit in your personal life by becoming a better reader and enjoying stories even more than you already do.
