Workload:	12 weekly sessions a 90' plus self-study. Requirements for obtaining ECTS credits and language course certificate: Compulsory attendance Preparation and follow up of classes in self-study Active participation in class Mid-term examination or presentation Passing the final examination The final, overall grade consists of partial performances (KMP) that must be achieved over the entire duration of the course Please note: Regular attendance is mandatory and will be assessed: 85% of the course is to be completed in presence, this also applies to online teaching formats, via videoconference. Make sure that you do not miss more than two classes (4 SWS). This way you will be admitted to the final examination! Active participation in class (peer and group works, discussion) incl. verbal skills will be evaluated. The course ends with a written examination, which usually takes place on the last day of the course. To successfully pass the examination, you much achieve at least 60 per cent.

Beschreibung:	Intercultural Communication: Studying and Working Across Cultures This course is designed to prepare students to communicate effectively with native and non-native English speakers from all over the world. We will raise your awareness for the communicative and cultural implications of situations at the university, at work and in everyday life. You will receive vital input on intercultural theory and relevant language structures (e.g. indirect questions). In order to do so, we will also explore our own cultural background and analyze our own intercultural experiences. Topics that will be covered: What is culture? Research Methods in Intercultural Studies Cultural Values Stereotypes and Prejudices Intercultural Communication at the University/at Work Ethnocentrism and Racism Migration Diversity and Intersectionality Methods we will use: Theory Simulations Critical Incidents Role Plays Seminar requirements: active participation presentation final exam
