Beschreibung: Mobile Game Design Theory (Haptics/Direct Manipulation/Mobile Interaction Design) Together we will discuss how to design for immersive mobile experiences by playing a selection of mobile games. Then we learn about Genres that are suitable for mobile devices. Not all game genres make sense on a mobile device. In this lecture we will primarily focus on 2D/3D so called Platformer Games. In Creativity Workshops we will learn to apply Mobile Game Design Theory and play with difference core game mechanics, produce game art, pick sounds and work on instant prototypes. We will learn how to pick the right game engine for mobile games (we will look at 2-3 different game engines). We will look at interaction and game design guidelines from Apple and Google. And finally we will learn how to export games with a focus on integration sensors (tilting) and other smart phone features.

Assignment 1: Discuss mobile Interaction Design for a game (considering the interdisciplinary nature of games by defining integration of phone features, business innovation and design option)

Assignment 2: Vertical slice of a mobile game (a playable prototype of approx 5-10 Min playtime) - this prototype must contain a game mechanic that will utilise some smartphone features such as tilting)

Assignment 3: Package the game for an mobile store (in this lecture we will focus on the google play store)

Goal of the Lecture: Learn about game design theory (with an emphasis on Mobile Games) Enable Students to design mobile games! Ability to read mobile game design and understands what makes them appealing/fun. Understand the Language (GUID, UID, IXD, UXD & Game Design) Improve drawing, interaction and layout skills Understand Aesthetics of Game Design
English Abstract: In this seminar we design and develop mobile games using state of the art game engines. The goal is to produce a vertical slice of game using easy access game engines such as e.b. Construct 2. The seminar focuses on the interdisciplinary skill sets that are necessary to appreciate and design mobile games. Here we use a player centered approach that starts with analysing existing games, come up with a conceptual design, produce a low fidelity prototype and evaluate the prototype before producing the final game.
